Ants can be a problem inside homes, especially when dry weather brings them inside looking for water or during very wet weather as has been the case in my area this summer. You don’t want to spray chemicals all over your living area or around your pets, so how can you get rid of these pests? Catnip is a great choice.
Ants hate catnip. Spread a little of the dried herb around areas they are invading and they will literally run from it. Catnip can be sprinkled along doorways or on windowsills to block them from entering. I have also found it to be just as effective taking a damp paper towel or rag and rubbing some into countertops or around pet food bowls where you don’t want to have the dried herb just lying around. It would probably work great mixed with a homemade cleaning solution for a two-for-one fix (I haven’t tried this yet, but plan to when the need arises again!).
Other types of mint plants are supposed to work just as well, although I’ve just stuck with the catnip so far.
